DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN OPEN AND CLOSED SYSTEM

Share this post:

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OPEN AND CLOSED SYSTEM VAPING? AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, WHICH ONE IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

This is actually a pretty simple answer. Closed system devices have simple-to-use flavour cartridges, also known as pods, that are pre-filled with eLiquid. Open system devices are filled by the vaper, who pours their purchased eLiquid into a tank on the top of device. So, one does the work for you, the other allows you to control the liquid.

That’s not quite the whole story though, so here’s the full low-down:

OUR CLOSED SYSTEM VAPING DEVICES

The key feature of closed system devices is that they are very easy to use. This is because you vape using flavour cartridges or pods which are pre-filled with eLiquid. All you have to do is click your preferred flavour into your device, switch it on (or with Pod just take a draw, it’s puff activated!), and start vaping. That’s all there is to it – it normally takes around 10 seconds.

Each closed system device has a different kind of flavour pod, so make sure you buy the right pod for your device. There are also different flavours for you to choose from and you can easily switch between flavours whenever you like.

You can go from nicotine to no nicotine at all; we’ve got you covered.

You don’t need to wait until the cartridge or pod runs out before switching, and you can reinsert one that is half-full. Our closed system devices are perfect for people who are often on the move during the day, and who are looking for a convenient vaping experience.

Choose from the ePen or ePod 2 vape pens for a simple to use closed system device. Find out more about the components of our closed vaping systems with our guide to Pod Mods.

OPEN SYSTEM VAPING DEVICES

An open system device gives you a customisable vaping experience and this is true, for example, of our Vuse eTank Mini device.

Firstly, open system devices allow you to pour e-liquid directly into a tank on top of the device. This means you can vape with many different e-liquid flavours.

The process for refilling your device with e-liquid is slightly different depending on the type of open system device, but it generally involves unscrewing the clearomiser and removing the mouthpiece to open up the e-liquid tank. We understand what it’s like when you start vaping for the first time, so for each Vuse device, you’ll find full instructions in the User Guide or read our blog guide on how to refill your open system.

Some open system devices have adjustable settings. The Vuse eTank Mini, for example, allows you to adjust the rate of airflow through the device –Open system devices therefore tend to be more for vapers who want to create their own, bespoke experience.

OPEN OR CLOSED VAPE SYSTEM?

Are you a plug in and use kind of vaper who wants a quality, convenient vape or a bespoke-flavour-maker who wants to customise every detail of your experience?

Well, choosing between open and closed vaping devices is up to you and your personal preference. However, Vuse closed vaping devices offer the security that they are accompanied by tamper-proof liquid pods intended to be used with the device. Our closed vaping devices offer more control over what liquid is vaped and the way the liquid is heated compared to open systems.

OPEN & CLOSED VAPING SYSTEM FAQs

CAN I USE OTHER BRAND PODS WITH VUSE DEVICES?

No, each Vuse closed system device (ePen and ePod) is designed to operate with the specific Vuse pods for the device.

CAN VUSE PODS BE TAMPERED WITH?

All Vuse pods (e-cigarette cartridges containing e-liquid) are packaged individually in foil blister packs. If the product has been tampered with, you will see that the foil is torn or ripped.

WHAT IS AN OPEN SYSTEM VAPE?

Open systems allow the consumer to disassemble the cartomiser and add different e-liquids (usually purchased in 10ml plastic bottles) before re-assembling the cartomiser and consuming the e-liquid. With an open system, the atomiser, the component that actually vaporises the liquid, needs to be changed regularly. This is important as with prolonged usage, the atomiser can become contaminated with different e-liquids and residues that impair the sensory experience.
